Q: The Bible deals with people from Adam to Noah to Abraham to Jacob to David to Jesus and the Jewish people. What about the Chinese, Aztecs, Indians, etc.? How are they connected to the Bible? Please help.

A: That's a good question that goes to the heart of the question "Is the Bible the Word of God?" since, if it is, then apparently God had little regard for those people dismissed by the Scriptures.

The Old Testament is a historical account of the Semites and the Hebrews, precursors to the Jewish people. The Old Testament is Jewish history, still thought by many to be "sacred;" since the Jewish people were devout Semites their historical account focuses on the development and evolution of the God concept within their culture and from that we have acquired the Jewish religious writings that are the Old Testament from which Christianity was born.

Is the Bible (the Old Testament) the Word of God? Certainly some of the writers were inspired by God; their contact with deity is evident to this day through their ancient writings. Yet, if it were the Word of God intended for all of mankind, one might think that it would encompass all of mankind as you've pointed out, since "God is no respecter of persons."

The historical account of the religious and spiritual development of the tribe of Semites capable of recording their history has given us the foundation of Western civilization -- the Bible. But, being localized, it does not provided an accurate historical account of the development of the human race on the planet. That history has been buried and lost over the eons and that's one of the purposes for receiving the overall scope of creation reveled by The Urantia Book -- it sets the record straight and puts historical events into perspective.

For example, in The Urantia Book, we learn this about the early relationship between the Chinese peoples (the yellow races) and the Indians (the red races) -

(79:5.5) For over two hundred thousand years these two superior races waged bitter and unremitting warfare. In the earlier struggles the red men were generally successful, their raiding parties spreading havoc among the yellow settlements. But the yellow man was an apt pupil in the art of warfare, and he early manifested a marked ability to live peaceably with his compatriots; the Chinese were the first to learn that in union there is strength. The red tribes continued their internecine conflicts, and presently they began to suffer repeated defeats at the aggressive hands of the relentless Chinese, who continued their inexorable march northward.

(79:5.8) The red and the yellow races are the only human stocks that ever achieved a high degree of civilization apart from the influences of the Andites. The oldest Amerindian culture was the Onamonalonton center in California, but this had long since vanished by 35,000 B.C. In Mexico, Central America and in the mountains of South America the later and more enduring civilizations were founded by a race predominantly red but containing a considerable admixture of the yellow, orange, and blue.

Related to this most fascinating subject, it should be said that the Biblical stories of Adam and Eve as the first two human beings are in great need of updating, and The Urantia Book does that for us. When Adam and Eve arrived on the planet, there were many, many peoples of various colorations on the earth who were deemed ready for a spiritual and biological upliftment - among them the Yellow race and the Red race. This is the reason that Adam and Eve came.

As mentioned above, far from the being the final word on humanity and its relationship to God, the Old Testament of the Bible is more the history of a single people - the early precursors to what we now know as the Jewish peoples. The races of mankind were not included, probably because the writers of the Bible books were not even aware of their existence. The world in those ancient times was nothing like our world today - there was no sophistication in regards to communications or global travel; life was pretty primitive, and the world outside of the Levantine areas was practically unknown.

And so, to answer your question, the races of mankind that you mention really have no connection to the Bible. This is not to say that they have no connection to God, however. Every individual of every race stands on an equal spiritual footing before God. And this great truth is fully explored within the revelation of The Urantia Book.

Were there humans on earth before Adam and Eve...?

Q: Were there humans on earth before Adam and Eve during the first earth age of creation - day 6 of the creation period?

Most people have been taught that Adam was the first human being, and that he was created by God on the spot, out of the clay of the earth. Later on it is said that Eve was fashioned out of one of Adam's ribs. Of course, we recognize this story from the Bible book of Genesis, and it has long been taken as literal fact by those who believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, despite the story's several inconsistencies.

The Urantia Book offers us a quite different - and entirely more plausible - account of the origins of Adam and Eve, as well as the story of creation. You can read the story in its entirety HERE

To answer your question though - yes, there were humans on earth before Adam and Eve. The legends of creation had their origins as a result of the first seven days that Adam and Eve spent on the planet after their arrival. You can read more about it HERE. The arrival of these two supermortal beings was such an astounding event to the primitive inhabitants of earth that their every move in that first week inspired legends that persist to this day.

The first human beings were evolved over many millenia of development, and appeared suddenly in a family of simians. From this very humble beginning this twin pair, named Andon and Fonta, left the family of their origins and struck off on their own to start the human race. By the time Adam and Eve arrived, thousands of years later, there were many human beings on the planet. Adam and Eve were sent as the second of five epochal revelations of God to mankind. Their mission was to be the physical and spiritual upstepping of the then-existing primitive races of mankind. Their mission was not wholly successful, however, due to the default of both Eve, and then Adam, in their sacred trust.

Who is the first man?

Q: Who is the first man?

You want to know who the first man is...well, the first "man" was in reality, the first truly human pair - twins named Andon and Fonta. They were the crown of the evolutionary ascent up to that time - humans who could speak and who had the capacity for wisdom and worship.

When the twins reached 11 years of age, the angels made this announcement and prayer:

(63:0.2) "Man-mind has appeared on 606 of Satania, and these parents of the new race shall be called Andon and Fonta. And all archangels pray that these creatures may speedily be endowed with the personal indwelling of the gift of the spirit of the Universal Father."

It was a very important time, and they were very important beings - the first real human beings, developed over millenia through the technique of evolution, now having reached the point where they could be called human beings. They left their simian family behind, and struck out on their own to become the beginnings of a whole new family - the family of man.

Is farming and eating animals right?

Q: Is farming and eating animals right?

A: The Urantia Book makes no pronouncements regarding the morality of eating meat, or the farming and raising of animals for food.

We do learn though, that Adam and Eve were vegetarians, as in this quote:

(76:3.7) Up to the time of leaving the first garden, Adam and his family had always subsisted on fruits, cereals, and nuts. On the way to Mesopotamia they had, for the first time, partaken of herbs and vegetables. The eating of meat was early introduced into the second garden, but Adam and Eve never partook of flesh as a part of their regular diet. Neither did Adamson nor Eveson nor the other children of the first generation of the first garden become flesh eaters.

(66:4.7) The practice of subsisting on a nonflesh diet dates from the times of the Caligastia one hundred, for this custom spread near and far to affect the eating habits of many surrounding tribes, groups of origin in the once exclusively meat-eating evolutionary races.

However, just because these beings chose a non-flesh diet, it does not mean that meat-eating is somehow a moral issue.

Consider this passage from a section called "The Cradle of Civilization:"

The evolutionary peoples (notably the Chinese) early learned to plant seeds and to cultivate crops through observation of the sprouting of seeds accidentally moistened or which had been put in graves as food for the departed. But throughout southwest Asia, along the fertile river bottoms and adjacent plains, the Andites were carrying out the improved agricultural techniques inherited from their ancestors, who had made farming and gardening the chief pursuits within the boundaries of the second garden.

For thousands of years the descendants of Adam had grown wheat and barley, as improved in the Garden, throughout the highlands of the upper border of Mesopotamia. The descendants of Adam and Adamson here met, traded, and socially mingled.

It was these enforced changes in living conditions which caused such a large proportion of the human race to become omnivorous in dietetic practice. And the combination of the wheat, rice, and vegetable diet with the flesh of the herds marked a great forward step in the health and vigor of these ancient peoples. (81:1.6)

GOD or Extraterrestrial?

Q: In every relegion, it is assumed that GOD is in the sky. Whenever believers refer GOD, they point at the sky, Stories of each religion tells that GOD will come from sky to solve our problems. GOD used to come to this earth in our ancient stories in this manner. Now my question is, could GOD could be some ET (extra terrestrial) having more IQ than human on earth, who used to visit earth often in earlier days?.
Hence, whether GOD or ET ?

A: Thank you for your question to Truthbook.com -- we're pleased you discovered our site, a site that focuses on the teachings of The Urantia Book. Your question is not an uncommon one from those who are searching for meaning.

As students of this marvelous book we believe, we're assured, that the universe is filled with intelligent life, the vast majority of it being considerably more intelligent than we human beings. Yet, even so, seldom is there ever contact with those superior physical or spirit beings -- life on this world, as on all others, is designed to develop independently of external influence -- that's why God put it all in motion.

So yes, there are more ET's out there than can be imagined, but no, we don't have contact with them except in a very few rare instances. We have learned from The Urantia Book that beginning about 500,000 years ago the primitive humans of this world did have contact with superior physical and spiritual beings -- we received a planetary prince, a spirit being who was to oversee the continuing evolution and development of the human races, and he and his physical staff did so according to plan for nearly 300,000 years. Then, about 200,000 years ago, due to the Lucifer Rebellion, the Planetary Prince defaulted in this mission and was lost to the evolving civilizations, giving rise to many myths, fairy tales, folklore and legends that continue to this day. A little less than 40,000 years ago we received a pair of biologic uplifters, Adam and Eve, whose purpose was to improve human genetics and whose mission was to have continued on for eons into the future, failed after a couple of hundred years, also due to the effects of the Lucifer Rebellion and also giving rise to more of the myths and legends we still encounter. This world really needs help...

Q: The Adam and Eve on our world defaulted. From my understanding they were bestowed even as Jesus was bestowed to help progress our world spiritually. Adam and Eves are normally bestowed on all other planets(in Satania) of our order from my understanding. This means that some Adam and Eves did not default on some planets and have contributed their quota to these planets. I was just pondering over how spiritually developed and mortally civilized this planets now have become since if any paradise son visits any of these planets, they will already have the spiritual affinity and strength to easily believe truths and know God.

If this is the case, then this world really needs help. Of course Jesus has brought down the Spirit of Truth but after over 2000 years, 'this' is how far we've come. 'It is horror' in Russia. This is a place where people choose to walk almost naked on the streets especially during these times of much enjoyed sunshine. Naked pictures hang freely on the streets. Television is an eye-saw sometimes. Alcohol is water for some people. Civilization is...............

I just want us all to agree in prayer that Father will shower more of His love over Urantia by sending in more help in any way or form to help save this quarantined planet of our sojourn.

A: I had no idea of the state of your society there in Russia...it sounds pretty free-wheeling and liberal - but maybe not always in a good way. I am old enough to remember a time when Russian society was portrayed to Westerners as very dreary, bleak, and Godless. After the fall of Communism in the 80s, things began to change and it sounds like they have changed pretty dramatically. In my opinion, this is a natural outcome of severe repression being replaced by severe liberality. It is like the swing of a pendulum: when it is swung too far one way, the opposite swing will take it as far the other way. Stabilization will take many more swings before the pendulum rests somewhere in the middle.

It is so very sad about our Adam and Eve - their default (along with the planetary rebellion) really put us back as a global civilization. If things had gone according to God's plan, we would still have our Material Son and Daughter - the Garden of Eden would be known world-wide as the center for spiritual culture and education, and there would be no doubt about the presence of God, or the goodness and reality of spirituality. As you point out, the planets on which Adam and Eve were successful "have the spiritual affinity and strength to easily believe truths and know God." Unfortunately for us, we have to muddle through without these wonderful celestial ambassadors. It is no wonder that mankind feels orphaned and alone in the universe - confused about our place and purpose...

From The Urantia Book:

(51:3.9) Your world has been visited by four orders of sonship: Caligastia, the Planetary Prince; Adam and Eve of the Material Sons of God; Machiventa Melchizedek, the "sage of Salem" in the days of Abraham; and Christ Michael, who came as the Paradise bestowal Son. How much more effective and beautiful it would have been had Michael, the supreme ruler of the universe of Nebadon, been welcomed to your world by a loyal and efficient Planetary Prince and a devoted and successful Material Son, both of whom could have done so much to enhance the lifework and mission of the bestowal Son! But not all worlds have been so unfortunate as Urantia, neither has the mission of the Planetary Adams always been so difficult or so hazardous. When they are successful, they contribute to the development of a great people, continuing as the visible heads of planetary affairs even far into the age when such a world is settled in light and life.

(51:6.3) Think what it would mean on your world if somewhere in the Levant there were a world center of civilization, a great planetary university of culture, which had functioned uninterruptedly for 37,000 years. And again, pause to consider how the moral authority of even such an ancient center would be reinforced were there situated not far distant still another and older headquarters of celestial ministry [the Planetary Prince] whose traditions would exert a cumulative force of 500,000 years of integrated evolutionary influence. It is custom which eventually spreads the ideals of Eden to a whole world.

(51:7.5) ...if Urantians could only observe life on such a planet, they would immediately appreciate the value of those things which their world has lost through embracing evil and participating in rebellion.

But, we have to take heart...we have been blessed by the bestowal of Christ Michael of Nebadon, born as the helpless babe of Bethlehem. Jesus chose our little backward planet as the universe scene of his revelation of God the Father - an amazing bestowal which, while unusual and out of order, has done a tremendous service towards the upstepping of our spiritual consciousness over the past 2000+ years. Even though his message and mission has been adulterated and misunderstood over the centuries, we now have the fifth epochal revelation - The Urantia Book - restating, and renewing Jesus' purpose, to help steer us back on course and further our spiritual regeneration with his pure message of the "good news," the realization of the Fatherhood of God and the resultant development of the planetary brotherhood of man. Those of us who have read and adopted this revelation from our celestial benefactors are equipped to help change our world for the better.

It might seem an almost overwhelming task, given the amount of confusion and strife that still exists here, but it is not meant to happen overnight (even though we might wish for a dramatic spiritual revolution). Just as the example of Russian society shows us, too rapid a change can bring unwelcome results. As Jesus said: "...everything must await the coming of its time." Many people speculate about the appearance of a Magisterial Son...I hope that it happens, of course, and I believe that it WILL happen. But when, is anyone's guess. I think that when it does happen we'll all know about it, but until then...

We who have accepted our sonship, and who dwell in the spiritual kingdom of heaven, must be content to seed our personal world with as much truth, beauty and goodness that we can muster - to effect change first, in our personal lives, and then to exhibit the fruits of the spirit which will draw others to a better way that they themselves would like to adopt. It can be discouraging to see the evidence of our planetary failures, but it can also be tremendously encouraging to experience our own spiritual victories as agondonters and truth-sharers.

I definitely add my prayers to yours that we are given some help - and soon. But even as we are, we have the great gift of The Urantia Book, and the assurance of eternal life. This often-crazy life is a very short sojourn in comparison...

Do please wake up

Q: Do you honestly believe that a woman can give birth to 63 children (your story about Adam and Eve)? What sort of process does your brain go through in order to deny the scientifically possible to believe this nonsense? Do please wake up.

A. Thank you for your note to Truthbook.com and yes, it does sound pretty preposterous doesn't it? You didn't mention the fact that Adam and Eve were supposed to be close to 8 feet tall when the native population was under 6 feet tall -- that would seem pretty preposterous, too. Also, that it's recounted that their bodies gave off a slight aura of color that could be seen with normal vision. If you want to pick at preposterousness then the recounting of the story of Adam and Eve is a great place to begin.

I think you'd have to understand a bit about what else The Urantia Book relates before being able to pluck the story of Adam and Eve from it and have it make much sense. Let me supply a bit of background for you.

Primarily, reality isn't material only; it's both material and spiritual although our relationship with the spiritual is tenuous at best -- we are, after all, the lowest form of free-will and personality endowed creatures in the universe and are intended to be living a nearly totally material existence here. Notwithstanding our ignorance, there is a spiritual overcontrol and administration that is ultimately in control of all material reality; it's responsible for, among many other things, seeing that each inhabited world receives an Adam and Eve at the appropriate time.

Adam and Eve are actually special creations called Material Sons (sometimes Material Sons and Daughters). The Urantia Book contains considerable information about these Material Sons, you can read a bit about them here...and here...

Feel free to further your critique once you've read the material.

Human evolution on an inhabited world proceeds along a normal evolutionary course and human beings naturally evolve up to an apex of physical, mental, and spiritual capacity. In order to develop beyond this limited natural apex an infusion of superior DNA is required, again a normal but rather spectacular event on a planet. This is done by these specially designed beings, the Material Sons, often called biologic uplifters, coming in person. Here's a bit more detailed write-up about this event if you're interested, which appears to scientifically verify this preposterous appearing event having occurred at the exact time in ancient history where The Urantia Book places it.

However, to address your point specifically; the purpose of an Adam and Eve when they are bestowed upon a planet, is to have children. Childbirth is not painful for Eve, it's her primary function and purpose for being here and she can and does have children one after another. So, yes, we do honestly believe that a superhuman woman such as Eve can give birth to considerably more than 63 children. The process our brain goes through is to understand what and why The Urantia Book relates the wealth of significant material it does. We don't deny what is and what isn't scientifically possible, and not only have woken up because of our study of The Urantia Book, we hope to assist everyone who can intelligently assess this material to wake up as well.

Since the Adam and Eve failure why not simply scrap the project and do it over?

Q: Since the Adam and Eve failure why not simply scrap the project and do it over? And as to the Calagastia upheaval why not simply send a new resident planetary prince in the old one's stead?

A: It's hard to answer for the decisions of the administrators of life development on this world; we have limited and short sighted vision while they understand the outworkings of events far beyond our understanding. So I'll have to guess.

By scrapping the project and doing it over I'm assuming you mean send Adam and Eve back to clean up after themselves. That does seem to be a possibility, although an unlikely one. It may be that more good will come from allowing us to work our own way through this predicament by ourselves, if possible. Also, having a highly advanced culture imposed on us from the outside now presents its own set of problems. I don't expect the vast majority of humanity would take kindly to being invaded by aliens and having their will imposed upon us. UB readers like the prospects... most everyone else would resist I imagine.

As for the Planetary Prince -- I believe Jesus fills that function for now and he some day will return, whether invisible or in person we don't know. It just doesn't look like we're in line for outside help beyond whatever's already being provided. It would be great if the plan had been carried out, if we had a visible and invisible 500,000 year old seat of planetary administration and a 38,000 year old Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve running worldly affairs but it looks like the life on this experimental world will continue to unfold along the lines of the predominantly material driven promptings of our own doing, leaving it up to ourselves to discover the spiritual underpinnings of reality.

I don't have anything against the Urantia Book but how do the authors know certain things that are not even mentioned in the Bible ...?

Q: I don't have anything against the Urantia Book but how do the authors know certain things that are not even mentioned in the Bible - such as Adam and Eve were not the first ones who lived in Earth, the presence of Prince Caligastia,etc..?

A: How the authors know these things is no mystery -- the authors live in a reality different from ours and information such as you've mentioned is readily available to them, much like someone living near the Library of Congress and having ready access to its more than 18 million books compared with someone having no internet or library connection living in a rural area. They know more because they have access to more. A large part of The Urantia Book is its revelatory nature - the authors reveal things that have been heretofore either unknown, or forgotten, or misunderstood. The subjects that you mentioned are part of that revealed knowledge. The stories of Adam and Eve, and the Planetary Prince put our history into a new, understandable, and Divine perspective - they help us to gain a new worldview of ourselves - our origins and our destiny.

Maybe the question you really wanted to ask is, why should I believe this information since it's not found elsewhere?

First, you shouldn't believe anything just because someone says you should believe it. You're in possession of a rational mind that can provide you with reality and truth responses and you're the only one responsible for your own beliefs. If something doesn't seem rational, doesn't seem real, doesn't seem true to you then either you should do more investigation or you should reject it. Second, perhaps 90% of what's contained within the pages of The Urantia Book is found at least in part in other published works; they may not be well known but then that's part of the purpose of The Urantia Book, to make them known, for them to be identified and to be studied. Furthemore, you are in possession of the Spirit of Truth - the literal representation of Jesus, who he promised he would leave with us when he left our earth. This is our sure and ever-present guide into all truth.

There's only one way to know if The Urantia Book is real and if it is true and that is to read it for yourself and to decide for yourself. Is it logical? Does it make sense? Does it exhibit truth, goodness, beauty? Does it give you hope and enhance your thinking and your living? Most importantly, does its teachings help you to become closer to God, and improve your relationship with him? A: Thank you for your note. Many readers today began reading The Urantia Book as teenagers -- some quite young. There have been several "restatements" of The Urantia Book aimed at simplifying the concepts; that may or may not be a good idea since it is the usage of the language that is the revelation and not the facts the book contains -- any simplification will concentrate on facts. However, the MorningStar Foundation, does carry all of the Urantia related materials currently available and you might look there for something you think would be appropriate.

People of any age can read and appreciate much of what's contained in The Urantia Book...The Lucifer Rebellion, the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve, Andon and Fonta, and all of Part IV.

A special bond can develop between parent and child as these stories are read aloud and the ideas presented there are discussed. Also, since the book is available in audio readers can play the audio as they read along, a great way to expand comprehension of the material.

How can you know whether you are just human or if you are a divinely bestowed personality?

Q: With such a focus on bestowal missions in TUB, how can you know whether you are just human or if you are a divinely bestowed personality?

A: Are you thinking that maybe because of the focus more people will be claiming to be divine? That's possible -- because of TUB more people are claiming to have special connections to spirit beings since any time that attention is given to something out of the ordinary people with unstable tendencies rush to use it to their advantage. We all like to think we're special -- and we are, but not in a worldly fashion and it's the worldly that exerts such a strong pull on the ego.

Divinely bestowed personalities know who they are -- Caligastia, Adam and Eve, Melchizedek, Jesus. They understood where they'd come from and what it was they intended to do while here so there was no doubt in their minds. Jesus, as a child, faced some confusion, but as he grew up and matured the knowledge came back to him. So, if you're a divinely bestowed personality you know your past and your future. If you're a self-deluding person you'll make yourself believe there's something divine and extra special about you, but deep down you'll know it's a deception.

It's my guess that there are no divinely bestowed personalities in human form on the planet at this time and that there won't be any for some time to come. We're pretty much left to our own devices by deity since it's important that we evolve naturally and solve our own problems. But at some point we'll have evolved to the point where we're ready for a new teacher and one will come. However, TUB has been here for 50 years and is still unknown -- it's going to take a while for it to have its intended effect and we'll need to absorb the fifth in order to be ready for something additional.

Patience and Impatience

Q: The Urantia Book gives specific examples of the dangers of being impatient. Where does the line go between being inactive or impatient?

A: That is a good question, and thanks for writing...

As you observed, The Urantia Book does give several examples of the dangers of impatience. I will list them here, for the benefit of other readers:

Impatience is a spirit poison; anger is like a stone hurled into a hornet's nest. 48:7.10

Most of the liberties which Lucifer sought he already had; others he was to receive in the future. All these precious endowments were lost by giving way to impatience and yielding to a desire to possess what one craves now and to possess it in defiance of all obligation to respect the rights and liberties of all other beings composing the universe of universes. Ethical obligations are innate, divine, and universal. 54:4.4

The "golden age" is a myth, but Eden was a fact, and the Garden civilization was actually overthrown. Adam and Eve carried on in the Garden for one hundred and seventeen years when, through the impatience of Eve and the errors of judgment of Adam, they presumed to turn aside from the ordained way, speedily bringing disaster upon themselves and ruinous retardation upon the developmental progression of all Urantia. 74:8.14

Probably no Material Sons of Nebadon were ever faced with such a difficult and seemingly hopeless task as confronted Adam and Eve in the sorry plight of Urantia. But they would have sometime met with success had they been more farseeing and patient. Both of them, especially Eve, were altogether too impatient; they were not willing to settle down to the long, long endurance test. They wanted to see some immediate results, and they did, but the results thus secured proved most disastrous both to themselves and to their world. 75:1.6

Serapatatia [associate chairman of the Edenic commission on tribal relations] was entirely loyal to the plan of building up a strong reserve of the violet race before attempting the world-wide upstepping of the confused peoples of Urantia. But this would require hundreds of years to consummate, and he was impatient; he wanted to see some immediate resultsâ€”something in his own lifetime. He made it clear to Eve that Adam was oftentimes discouraged by the little that had been accomplished toward uplifting the world. 75:3.6

One day when Ganid asked Jesus why he had not devoted himself to the work of a public teacher, he said: "My son, everything must await the coming of its time. You are born into the world, but no amount of anxiety and no manifestation of impatience will help you to grow up. You must, in all such matters, wait upon time. Time alone will ripen the green fruit upon the tree. Season follows season and sundown follows sunrise only with the passing of time. 130:5.3

It is easy to see that most of these references have to do with either the default of Adam and Eve or with the Lucifer Rebellion. Both of these vital missions of spiritual truth to our planet were irreparably harmed because of the impatience of those who wanted results, and they wanted them NOW.

It is a fine line that has to be drawn between taking action, and displaying impatience. In the case of these high spirit beings, upon whom so much depended, that line was crossed, to the detriment of the whole planet - even the whole of our planetary system. In our daily lives, we will likely not have those kinds of dire consequences to face if we jump the gun in our efforts to see results, but still, impatience can harm us, and mar our future lives.

We are creatures of time - and time is a vital element in the unfolding of our lives. As Jesus says, "...everything must await the coming of its time." One of the challenges that we face is this idea of allowing our lives to unfold - of cherishing the present time and living in the now, which is all we can experience of eternity. We can envision the future, we can work for it, but the most important work we can do is to live right here, right now, doing the next best thing. In this way, we create a future that is good. We can certainly make things happen by precipitous action, but is it the right thing to do? Unfortunately, as in the case of Adam and Eve, the consequences of actions are not felt or realized until after the actions are taken. So, it would seem that thoughtful deliberation and prayer must be employed before we decide to "make it so." Sometimes, the future that we envision, a future that could be forced by our action, might not be the future that is the best one for us, and then we must suffer because of our impatience. If we "wait upon time," we might even gain even more than we thought possible.

I think that one of the best things we can do in this regard is to follow the example of Jesus, who spent quiet times of meditation and prayerful receptivity. He was fond of communing with the Father in this way, and as we know, his life unfolded according to God's will always. Many times he said: "My hour has not yet come," while awaiting the right time to begin his ministry to the world. One has to wonder what might have happened if he had decided on his own to begin his public work before the time was right...

In my opinion, impatience seems to have its roots in pride - a childish pride that demands a result that, while it may be a good thing, could prove disastrous when not allowed to flower on its own, with the patience and endurance of time. Again, Jesus says it all: "Time alone will ripen the green fruit upon the tree." That idea of an end result may be good, but it is unripe until the passage of time allows it to ripen. Unripe fruit can be very bitter...

I think that when we sincerely determine to live our lives in the eternal "now," that we are prompted, or otherwise receive some inner wisdom to act when necessary. With prayer and sincerity, following the example of the Master, we can act with assurance when the time is right. With practice, and by experiencing the fruits of our actions, we may eventually learn to toe that line between right action and impatience. This is a benefit of growing older, I have found - although I still suffer from impatient action, much to my own dismay. Youth is notoriously impetuous, and many times acts on impulse or out of impatience and inexperience. The wisdom of age shows us the value of being still and waiting upon time, and even the young can learn this lesson.

What Did Eve Have To Do With The "Fall Of Man?"

Q: I recently read the papers concerning the default of Eve, and I am at a loss at how I am to interpret the situation. Was Eve supposed to eventually spread her genes like Adam did with the 1,682 superior women, or did she cheat on her husband?

A: Eve was, indeed, meant to share her genes with the evolving races; however, this process was not to be performed by her and Adam personally, but by their offspring.

You may remember this passage from The Urantia Book:

Usually the violet peoples do not begin to amalgamate with the planetary natives until their own group numbers over one million. But in the meantime the staff of the Planetary Prince proclaims that the children of the Gods have come down, as it were, to be one with the races of men; and the people eagerly look forward to the day when announcement will be made that those who have qualified as belonging to the superior racial strains may proceed to the Garden of Eden and be there chosen by the sons and daughters of Adam as the evolutionary fathers and mothers of the new and blended order of mankind.

On normal worlds the Planetary Adam and Eve never mate with the evolutionary races. This work of biologic betterment is a function of the Adamic progeny. But these Adamites do not go out among the races; the prince's staff bring to the Garden of Eden the superior men and women for voluntary mating with the Adamic offspring. And on most worlds it is considered the highest honor to be selected as a candidate for mating with the sons and daughters of the garden.

So, the plan was that Adam and Eve would produce one million offspring, after which these offspring would then mate with the superior indigenous races of earth. The purpose of all this was to upstep and improve the racial stocks of earth, and to improve the races in all ways by this infusion of the blood of the Violet race

But, as you will remember, our planet was still suffering the effects of the Lucifer Rebellion, and was in isolation - cut off from the celestial broadcasts, and from all other spiritual circuits that are enjoyed by normal planets. Even though they had been warned, Adam and Eve were not fully prepared for the isolation they would feel, and they were not accustomed to the slowness of the realization of their mission. After about 100 years on Earth, they became discouraged.

Through the underhanded plans of Prince Caligastia, the disgraced leader of the rebellion on Urantia, Eve was tempted to make a shortcut in the mission. She was influenced to mate with Cano, the leader of the Nodites, in order to provide a leader from Violet stock to help the advancing races in the short term. This was not a case of her "cheating" on Adam. She was not doing this out of an adulterous motive. She really thought that what she was doing was a good thing, and a way to jump-start the mission. But her transgression had terrible repercussions, as the entire mission of Adam and Eve was then in default, and we eventually lost our Material Son and Daughter, when they should have been here still. It was one more instance when Urantia was dealt a hard blow in its upward advancement, and it is one more reason that we find ourselves in such sad shape here on this dark planet.

Adam, when he discovered what Eve had done, sought out a mortal woman with whom he also mated, just so he would then share Eve's fate, and she would not be alone in disgrace. But this was far from simple infidelity between husband and wife - this default of Adam and Eve delivered a mortal wound to the success of the Adamic mission to our planet. Even though a portion of the genetic material of Adam and Eve was delivered to the planet, the mission fell far short of its original intent.

Has the human race been visited by extraterrestrials?

Q: What is the UFO phenomenon all about? What about the possibilities that ETs from other worlds seeded some of our races?

A: That's an interesting question with no conclusive answer to the first part, even from a Urantia Book perspective. The Urantia Book makes it clear that there are trillions of inhabited worlds but under normal circumstances there is no contact on a material level between any of them until long after they've achieved a very high level of civilization called light and life -- that lets us out, and not only that, our world is still laboring under a quarantine from the celestial worlds. So, what are UFO's?

One possibility is that they're transport vehicles used by the Urantia midway creatures (midwayers), the permanent and usually invisible residents of earth. If you'll do a search on our site you can read what The Urantia Book has to say about midwayers, beings midway between spirit and material reality, as opposed to human beings existing solidly in material reality.

Another conjecture is that since this is not a normal inhabited world that these are vehicles belonging to beings from a nearby world who have been invited here as assistants to the midwayers.

On a personal note, I used to be highly intrigued by UFO sightings and tales. After discovering The Urantia Book that interest dwindled to where now I'd be interested in seeing one but other than that I pay the phenomenon little attention. You'll find numerous other interpretations of what UFOs are among other students of the book, but those two are my personal favorites.

About the possibility that ETs seeded some of our races ... The Urantia Book relates two historical instances of that being the case, normal procedures on all inhabited worlds and part of the normal evolutionary plan. Five hundred thousand years ago an ET administration was established in the Mid-East that flourished for several hundred thousand years. It was comprised of a spiritual ruler of the planet and his staff of 100. All of these were beings of the spirit order and invisible to humans. Their purpose was to establish training schools in agriculture, animal husbandry, social sciences, physical sciences, language and religion -- to improve the social climate of the primitive evolutionary races through these schools and through selective mating. The second instance of ET intervention is that of Adam and Eve which occurred about 38,000 years ago. They were physical beings sent here on a mission similar to Caligastia's but directed more toward the biological uplift of the races.
