What about the gospel of Thomas and the gospel of Mary?

Q: What about the gospel of Thomas and the gospel of Mary? Also, what about the Christian Gnostics in the first and second Centuries AD?

A: Thanks for your note to Truthbook.com...

I did a cursory search on these gospels that you cite, and it was an interesting read. I assume you want to know what we think about these accounts of Jesus' life, as opposed to the teachings of The Urantia Book...?

It does not surprise me that people are searching - and finding - snippets of information about Jesus discovered in newly uncovered documents from the times of Jesus. Jesus' impact upon his day and time - and in the following centuries - was profound. It would not surprise me that there are probably pages and pages of writings that were available from those times, but which did not make the cut for inclusion into what we know as the Bible. After all, Jesus did live a life of 33 years on Earth. Many knew him, and I am sure, many wrote things about him - things that may have never seen the light of day until recent times.

Because of the exclusive nature of the Biblical writings, there has long been a fear of "adding or subtracting" anything because of the warnings regarding such things. The Bible has long been considered so sacred, that anything else written, or discovered from those times now has an odor of suspicion connected with them among Bible purists. It is one reason that The Urantia Book is looked upon with suspicion by such purists. However, this fear is becoming less prohibitive as people understand that much of the truth of Jesus' life has been hidden from them by those who have tried to encapsulate his life and control the dissemination of truth. God does not act in this way, but has continued to reveal himself to humankind in ways large and small.

The truth is, people are convinced that there has to be more information about Jesus than the scanty accounts of only three years of his life that we are given in the traditional Bible. And they are right. It only stands to reason that this would be so...

I don't claim to be a Biblical scholar, or knowledgeable in either these two gospels that you cite, or about the Christian Gnostics. I am, however, fairly knowledgeable about the revelation contained in The Urantia Book - the restatement of the Life and Teachings of Jesus - which comprise nearly a third of this marvelous book. This restatement is derived from the account of one who was acquainted Jesus for his entire life, from childhood, to grave, to resurrection. This eyewitnesses is a spiritual being whose memories are more accurate, and more inclusive than anything I have ever read about Jesus from any other source. It is a part of the epochal revelation from God to man which is The Urantia Book.

This being states:

"ACTING UNDER THE supervision of a commission of twelve members of the United Brotherhood of Urantia Midwayers, conjointly sponsored by the presiding head of our order and the Melchizedek of record, I am authorized to place on record the narrative of the life transactions of Jesus of Nazareth as they were observed by my order of earth creatures, and as they were subsequently partially recorded by the human subject of my temporal guardianship [the apostle Andrew]. Knowing how his Master so scrupulously avoided leaving written records behind him, Andrew steadfastly refused to multiply copies of his written narrative. A similar attitude on the part of the other apostles of Jesus greatly delayed the writing of the Gospels." (121:0.1)

I have added a link to the above statement, so that you will understand what the United Brotherhood of Urantia Midwayers is, and why we can believe this account of Jesus' life. This link also will take you to those papers of the book that chronicle Jesus' life story.

Midwayers are "planetary historians," and are of invaluable assistance to the mortal races still today. They are the permanent citizens of our planet, and their only purpose is to aid mortals in their quest for God. The link in this paragraph will give you more information about these amazing beings

Please read HERE for even more information regarding the mdwayer accounting of Jesus' life. It will explain to you in far greater detail how the narrative was obtained and recorded.

Among other interesting things, this being states:

" [Acknowledgment: In carrying out my commission to restate the teachings and retell the doings of Jesus of Nazareth, I have drawn freely upon all sources of record and planetary information. My ruling motive has been to prepare a record which will not only be enlightening to the generation of men now living, but which may also be helpful to all future generations. From the vast store of information made available to me, I have chosen that which is best suited to the accomplishment of this purpose. As far as possible I have derived my information from purely human sources. Only when such sources failed, have I resorted to those records which are superhuman. When ideas and concepts of Jesus' life and teachings have been acceptably expressed by a human mind, I invariably gave preference to such apparently human thought patterns. Although I have sought to adjust the verbal expression the better to conform to our concept of the real meaning and the true import of the Master's life and teachings, as far as possible, I have adhered to the actual human concept and thought pattern in all my narratives. I well know that those concepts which have had origin in the human mind will prove more acceptable and helpful to all other human minds. When unable to find the necessary concepts in the human records or in human expressions, I have next resorted to the memory resources of my own order of earth creatures, the midwayers. And when that secondary source of information proved inadequate, I have unhesitatingly resorted to the superplanetary sources of information." (121:8.12)

In the end, I do not concern myself with these new supposed "gospels" of Jesus, because I believe that I possess the only account of his life that is completely accurate - that which is found in the pages of The Urantia Book, and which is freely available to you, and all others who choose to read and compare. For me, information supplied by these superhuman sources carries far more weight than anything written by humans.

While there may be nuggets of truth and inspiration contained in other gospels, the Life and Teachings of Jesus, as contained in The Urantia Book supplies me with all I need in understanding who Jesus was, what his mission was, as well as a detailed accounting of all of his most important and life-changing teachings. I might read these other accounts of Jesus' life, but when I want real accuracy, I rely upon The Urantia Book. Read it, and you'll see why...

Best Wishes...

Has the human race been visited by extraterrestrials?

Q: What is the UFO phenomenon all about? What about the possibilities that ETs from other worlds seeded some of our races?

A: That's an interesting question with no conclusive answer to the first part, even from a Urantia Book perspective. The Urantia Book makes it clear that there are trillions of inhabited worlds but under normal circumstances there is no contact on a material level between any of them until long after they've achieved a very high level of civilization called light and life -- that lets us out, and not only that, our world is still laboring under a quarantine from the celestial worlds. So, what are UFO's?

One possibility is that they're transport vehicles used by the Urantia midway creatures (midwayers), the permanent and usually invisible residents of earth. If you'll do a search on our site you can read what The Urantia Book has to say about midwayers, beings midway between spirit and material reality, as opposed to human beings existing solidly in material reality.

Another conjecture is that since this is not a normal inhabited world that these are vehicles belonging to beings from a nearby world who have been invited here as assistants to the midwayers.

On a personal note, I used to be highly intrigued by UFO sightings and tales. After discovering The Urantia Book that interest dwindled to where now I'd be interested in seeing one but other than that I pay the phenomenon little attention. You'll find numerous other interpretations of what UFOs are among other students of the book, but those two are my personal favorites.

About the possibility that ETs seeded some of our races ... The Urantia Book relates two historical instances of that being the case, normal procedures on all inhabited worlds and part of the normal evolutionary plan. Five hundred thousand years ago an ET administration was established in the Mid-East that flourished for several hundred thousand years. It was comprised of a spiritual ruler of the planet and his staff of 100. All of these were beings of the spirit order and invisible to humans. Their purpose was to establish training schools in agriculture, animal husbandry, social sciences, physical sciences, language and religion -- to improve the social climate of the primitive evolutionary races through these schools and through selective mating. You can read about the Planetary Prince of Urantia and of the Caligastia 100 on our site.

The second instance of ET intervention is that of Adam and Eve which occurred about 38,000 years ago. They were physical beings sent here on a mission similar to Caligastia's but directed more toward the biological uplift of the races. The story of Adam and Eve given in The Urantia Book is plausible, logical, insightful, and tragic and can be read in the book or on our site, Truthbook.com

Dates In The Urantia Book, And Women Who Followed Jesus

Q: Thank you for the information found on your website. It is quite surprising with regard to the specific dates of certain occurences. Can you please tell me how you came up with these dates? What/who are your sources?

I am researching these subject women in the Bible in an effort to "chronicle" their lives according to what I've read in The Bible and certain other articles. I am really curious to know if anyone can share with me the approximate ages of these women at the time of The Ascension, as well as any other information, e.g., the persecution of Lazarus and his sisters after the Crucifixion.

A: Thank you for your question to Truthbook.Com. We always appreciate hearing from someone who's just come across the teachings of The Urantia Book for the first time.

Yes, the information on our website is quite surprising and startling when first encountered. The Urantia Book is unique; one of its purposes is to provide (when necessary) information heretofore unknown or otherwise unavailable -- the specific dates of Jesus' life being one example. Another startling bit of information is that there is no "we" in coming up with information such as these dates presented by this marvelous book -- the book is a divine gift to humanity -- we read it and accept or disregard it as we choose. To our way of thinking there is no more definitive work on Jesus' life and teachings extant than can be learned through study of The Urantia Book.

You asked about the source. Do you believe in angels? If not you may have a challenge with accepting the caveat in the book relating to the Jesus Papers (Paper 120 through Paper 196) which says: "Part IV, The Life and Teachings of Jesus, This group of papers was sponsored by a commission of twelve Urantia midwayers acting under the supervision of a Melchizedek revelatory director. The basis of this narrative was supplied by a secondary midwayer who was onetime assigned to the superhuman watchcare of the Apostle Andrew."

Your research project is most challenging, partly because the role of women in religion has been historically suppressed by the role of men in religion. Much in The Urantia Book helps explain the roles of men and women from a perspective outside of a humanly skewed historical and religious viewpoint. The two questions you've asked regarding the women around Jesus and Lazarus's sisters are covered in The Urantia Book and I wouldn't want to spoil your discovery by simply answering them. There's a study on our site titled "Mary Magdalene and Other Women Who Followed Jesus" which will help you but don't stop there.

What are spiritual influences?

Q: What are spiritual influences?

A: That's a good question. The Urantia Book has a lot to tell us about spiritual influences and students of the book don't necessarily agree upon what it says so I can only give you my perception.

We're told that our world teems with spiritual influences – various orders of angels involved in myriad tasks and beings who are midway between material beings like ourselves and the angels whom we can't see. Our minds are also inhabited by a spiritual spark of God the Father ministering incessantly to help spiritualize our thoughts throughout this short life in the flesh. None of these influences however are perceived by our senses so it's as if we're alone and without their ministry, although that's not the case.

Some people (even believers in the Urantia revelation) like to believe that they're more spiritually sensitive than average and that they have special spiritual connections – that they can communicate with spirit beings or with the "dead" and can relay messages from them. The Urantia Book doesn't teach that this is so – what it does teach is that one should strive to be open to spiritual guidance but that on the whole we should learn to be the best material beings we know how to be and not become overly involved in psychic experiences – we're given this material life for a purpose that is of more value than is striving to be "more spiritual than material." We'll have the rest of eternity to be spiritual – we have now to be material.
