Extreme Interest in Spirituality - a "Twin" Connection?

Q: I would like to know if by my being a "mortal-twin" has anything to do with my EXTREME interests and spiritual connections I have always been aware of even as an infant?

A: Being a twin is solely a physical phenomenon although both you and your twin can share a strong psychic connection as well as both being held within the mind circuits of your parents until your late teen years. These have little to do with a spiritual connection though -- that comes more through your own personal sensitivity and orientation toward your angels and Thought Adjuster leadings, your connection with the Spirit of Truth and the Holy Spirit, and in those areas you and your twin could be quite different.

One caution about having an EXTREME interest in things spiritual -- this is the world of your first and only material existence. From this point on we will be "spirit beings" so don't rush into being "spiritual". Love and enjoy where you are here and now and experience it thoroughly and wholeheartedly. Keep your focus on the reality about you (keep your tires on the pavement and don't let them get pointed at the sky). Avoid wishful thinking and be practical. That's the best formula for living a happy, fulfilling and productive material existence.

What are spiritual influences?

Q: What are spiritual influences?

A: That's a good question. The Urantia Book has a lot to tell us about spiritual influences and students of the book don't necessarily agree upon what it says so I can only give you my perception.

We're told that our world teems with spiritual influences – various orders of angels involved in myriad tasks and beings who are midway between material beings like ourselves and the angels whom we can't see. Our minds are also inhabited by a spiritual spark of God the Father ministering incessantly to help spiritualize our thoughts throughout this short life in the flesh. None of these influences however are perceived by our senses so it's as if we're alone and without their ministry, although that's not the case.

Some people (even believers in the Urantia revelation) like to believe that they're more spiritually sensitive than average and that they have special spiritual connections – that they can communicate with spirit beings or with the "dead" and can relay messages from them. The Urantia Book doesn't teach that this is so – what it does teach is that one should strive to be open to spiritual guidance but that on the whole we should learn to be the best material beings we know how to be and not become overly involved in psychic experiences – we're given this material life for a purpose that is of more value than is striving to be "more spiritual than material." We'll have the rest of eternity to be spiritual – we have now to be material.

Does each person have a guardian angel?

Q: Does each person have a guardian angel?

A: The Urantia Book provides specific answers to this question. We've put much of the angel information under one category on our site which you may want to review - just click on the "Angels are Real" link on our home page.

As to whether each person has a guardian angel, yes and no. Every person who has attained a minimum spiritual status has a guardian angel. Their angel may also be responsible for a thousand other mortals as well, each of them being under the angel's charge. As we become more spiritually attuned the groups we're associated with under an angel's charge become smaller and there are people who are exclusively assigned a guardian angel pair. This applies here during this life as well as in the life to come.

Which religion is perfect?

Q: which religion is perfect? Hinduism, Christianity or Islam?

A: There's a distinction between religion and spirituality that should first be made, spirituality being the personal relationship you have with your creator, and religion being the social form you choose for expressing your spirituality. Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam are different forms of expression of the spiritual and religious drive within us -- they're sustained by social participation, spiritual experiences, by history and tradition, and by religious authority. When any particular religion meets the needs of one's inner life it's spiritually beneficial and when it doesn't it's time to find something that may more closely match one's spiritual development, because we can evolve spiritually during this lifetime.

There are thousands of religions practiced in the world today -- you've named 3 but along with Judaism and Buddhism you could have also included: ancestor worship, Brahmanism, Confucianism, Jainism, mysticism, paganism, Pantheism, polytheism, Shinto, Sikhism, Yoga, and Zoroastrianism to name a few of the others.

Which religion is perfect? None. They each have spiritually beneficent teachings and practices mixed with time-worn traditions. Although spiritually inspired, religions are man-made institutions and are therefore imperfect. That doesn't deny their spiritual value or what can be accomplished through them for personal and social good.

In the Bible we learn that "God is no respecter of persons" meaning that God doesn't show favoritism and that in God's eye we are all equal. The same would be true of religions -- none is more blessed in God's eye than any other. What's most different among religions is the truth they contain and the truths they teach.

Following is a sample of The Urantia Book's teachings on religions and the truth they contain:

P.1012 - §4 The many religions of Urantia (earth) are all good to the extent that they bring man to God and bring the realization of the Father to man. It is a fallacy for any group of religionists to conceive of their creed as The Truth; such attitudes bespeak more of theological arrogance than of certainty of faith. There is not a Urantia religion that could not profitably study and assimilate the best of the truths contained in every other faith, for all contain truth. Religionists would do better to borrow the best in their neighbors' living spiritual faith rather than to denounce the worst in their lingering superstitions and outworn rituals.

The Urantia Book contains the most objective and inspiring analysis of religion versus spirituality that you're ever likely to come into contact with. May I suggest you consider studying this marvelous book; it answers most of life's most perplexing questions like no other.
